Jones Cave Trip

Ethan and I took a cave trip a few months ago and this weekend we went back to the same cave. Our goal on this trip was to get to the back of the cave which is about 6.5 miles long and has some incredibly large rooms as you’ll see in the photos. I combined a few pictures from our first trip with a few from this trip for those of you who may not have seen the first ones. We didn’t take many photos on this trip because we had a so many from the first go around so this is just a sampling. Some of the photos didn’t turn out well because you can only throw light so far in total darkness with flashlights and headlamps. I hope you enjoy the photos as much as we enjoyed getting them. This was a pretty tight spot we crawled through on the way inEthan and my co-worker Alex
The Kings Shower. There is about 6 feet of headroom here. When you crawl thru this hole in the ceiling you are in a much larger room called the topless dome. The dome is 450 feet high and is not open to the sky. It is perpetually raining inside the dome. On the day we went there was so much water coming thru the hole it had enough force to knock you down. In fact, it did knock Alex down the first time he tried to crawl thru. The next pictures are of the dome room and do not do it justice because we just couldn’t get enough light on it.
Our best attempt at capturing the height of the dome. That is water falling down thru the middle.

Well, ya'll are either brave adventurers or crazy. I would go nuts in there but I bet that Ethan loves it! Great pictures. Bonding, man stuff, father and son!
Have fun and be careful.

How did you keep from getting soaking wet? Looks like something I'd like to do.

Hey Mary - You might say brave and scared at the same time. On this second trip we went all the way back, about 6.5 miles and 500 feet down. I had to stop and pray for God to take my fear several times. We did have a great time.
Thanks Debbie - we enjoyed taking them. If you were interested in them all I could upload them to snapfish. How much time do you have? :-) Brent - We did get soaking wet and cold too, but we quickly warmed back up with all the climbing and crawling. If we could Debbie back to the King's Shower she'd think she was in heaven. We'd never get her to come back out.
